The lab is an equal opportunity employer. All opportunities will be posted publicly to allow any qualified person to apply.
Work hours
- I ask that graduate students maintain a 40 hour work week at minimum. This should include studying for classes as well as your research. In your first few years, there will be a higher proportion of time spent on classes, but that will shift over time.
- I ask that undergraduate students be able to commit to 10 hours per week. This can be more sporadic as these are often volunteer positions. I do expect my undergraduate students to keep up their high grades in coursework, so please just let me know if you need to adjust each week.
- I support flexible work hours for everyone. I do not have fixed expectations about when and for how long you should be in the office every day as long as the work is being done and good progress is happening in your project.
- I will not expect/require lab members to work on weekends.
- If you are not feeling well (emotionally or physically) please feel free to go home and take care of yourself. Any sort of illness is not a personal failing.
- Please consult Vacation for policies. Vacations are recommended and encouraged.

💡 If you are worried about whether you are:
- working enough,
- working too much, or
- spending your time on the right things
I suggest performing a time audit for 2-3 weeks. Toggl is a useful tool:

Compensation
- PhD students will be paid. Masters students are not guaranteed payment, but it will be prioritized in the budget.
- If funds are available, undergrads will be paid after a trial period of one quarter, if willing to dedicate time and meet expectations (as discussed and set with supervisor).
Project management
- I expect each student to be in charge of managing their project and to ensure that targets are being set and met. I will support you in developing the skills necessary to achieve this.
- We will use Gantt charts, Kanban boards, and other project management tools to take an intentional approach to research project management.
Deadlines
- I ask that lab members to set and respect internal deadlines to avoid last minute situations.
